About The Nova Diabetes Center

We are pleased to introduce the Nova Diabetes Center, a comprehensive facility providing unique medical, educational, and support services to patients with pre-diabetes, type I and type II diabetes.

Located in Suite 203 of the Ashburn facility (21785 Filigree Court), the Nova Diabetes Center is headed by Board Certified Internist and Endocrinologist Dr. James F. McMurry.  Personalized medical care, specialized labs and testing, nutritional counseling, and other medical services are available.  Patients of the Nova Diabetes Center also have access to our integrative services such as: on-site fitness and nutrition counseling, including certified personal trainers and group fitness classes; acupuncture treatments; counseling services; and naturopathic guidance

A number of educational services and resources are available at the Nova Diabetes Center to help patients and their families learn about diabetes and how to properly manage the disease, including monthly classes and an on-site certified diabetic educator (CDE).

Administered by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators, the CDE credential demonstrates that the licensed healthcare professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge in diabetes self-management education. Registered Dietitian & Certified Diabetes Educator Amy Johnson and Registered Dietitian & Certified Diabetes Educator Haesun Hwang are available to patients for individual care and guidance.

In addition, our Certified Diabetes Educators will also lead the monthly diabetes education classes with Dr. McMurry, "Learning the ABC's of Diabetes."  A common acronym, the "ABC's" represent A1c, blood pressure, and cholesterol, three fundamental elements in managing diabetes.  Diet and lifestyle changes will also be addressed.

Led by Teerawong Kasiolarn, ND, MSAc., LAc., group naturopathic sessions addressing natural treatment options for managing pre-diabetes are also available monthly.

Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center, Inc., including the new Nova Diabetes Center, participates with most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Virginia Medicaid.  For a complete list of participating insurance carriers, please click here.

          Glucose Sensor Testing for Diabetics

Nova is pleased to offer a new technology to assist insulin-treated diabetics who are not well controlled. A Glucose Sensor can be applied to the skin of the abdomen and worn for 4-5 days. It will record blood glucose every five minutes to help discover discrepancies in the less-frequent fingerstick glucose readings. Patients will continue during this period to do fingerstick glucose testing to correlate.

For more information, please schedule an appointment with Dr. James McMurry for Glucose Sensor. A 30-minute appointment is needed. A report will usually be available 1-2 days after the completion of the Glucose Sensor monitoring.
